We are sharing our recent interview with a popular YouTuber, Rapper, and Music Producer Lionel B. His recent release “The Way it used to be featuring Papa Duck” is getting an exceptional response.
Pro Media Mag : How would you introduce yourself in one line?
Lionel B : I am a Lionel B from the Lionel B Show, a popular YouTuber/Music Producer/Rapper
Pro Media Mag : What brought you into music & Entertainment? You were interested in Air Force but you came into entertainment, what was the inspiration?
Lionel B : I always had a passion for music. It was like a breath in my body, that I could go never live without. I did serve in the Air Force and though I learned a lot of things while being in there, like discipline, ultimately, it just wasn’t for me. I couldn’t get into the whole somebody treating you like you’re less than.
Pro Media Mag : What made you launch your own label “Tight Grip Media”?
Lionel B : Tight Grip came about because, of my passion for music, and wanted to give artists opportunities to shine, and have a platform to release their music.
Pro Media Mag : Any particular artist(s) you loved working with under your label?
Lionel B : They were all super talented individuals. I think they just needing more grooming. Grooming in the industry is so important. People feel like they are ready most of the time, but they really aren’t.
Pro Media Mag : Tell us about your recent release “The Way it used to be” featuring Papa Duck?
Lionel B : The way it used to be is such a powerful and meaningful song. It’s about life back in the late 80’s and early 90’s and how simple and different things used to be. The coronavirus has had such an impact on the world, and mine also. I recently lost my mother/bestfriend to the awful virus, and the song made me just want to reminisce about the times when we didn’t have to worry about such uncontrollable things.
Pro Media Mag : Lyrics, vocals, composition, or production, what’s the most important ingredient? Can you put them in an order according to the level of importance?
Lionel B : Production, Composition, Vocals, then Lyrics. I feel like production is what people will hear first, and if the production is weak the song will be also. A lot of hip hop music now is beat driven, and often times, people don’t really understand what is being said. I think lyrics are out of the door, but I still love being a lyricist, and saying meaningful words that people can vibe to.
Pro Media Mag : What was the inspiration behind starting your YouTube channel? We are sure you didn’t know at that time, it would be such a success.
Lionel B : Really started out my YouTube channel The Lionel B Show, was an unexpected success to me. I was trying it out, and went viral a bunch of times and it shocked be. But it also let me know that I was in the right field. I gained so many followers and so much love from fans while being on the platform, and being recognized out in public still shocks me sometimes. People are really loyal to their favorite YouTubers and they show me a lot of love. I love them back also, and I love doing YouTube.
Pro Media Mag : After achieving millions of views and subscribers, what’s up next?
Lionel B : I am looking to expand and still keep my core audience and gain new ones. I’m always working hard to put out the best videos, and not bore people to death, because I feel like integrity and quality is key to growing a successful YouTube channel. I’m wanting to continue to build my brand, and reach a few million subscribers.
