We are sharing our recent interview with Caramel Mafia, a Berlin bases DJ and Radio personality.
Pro Media Mag : First of all please introduce yourself to our readers.
Caramel Mafia : I’m Caramel Mafia. I’m a German DJ and Radio personality based in Berlin. Beside spinning a mixture of HipHop, R&B, Trap and Afrobeat I’m also running my own Club night named Ratchet.
Pro Media Mag : Who or what inspired you to get into music industry?
Caramel Mafia : I was always surrounded by music. Even in my professional life as a Radio Presenter Music is a very important factor in my daily life so it was only a matter of time till I would start to DJ. About 8 years ago I went to this Party called “Peaches & Cream” which was amazing and inspiring. After some shots, I stepped up to the DJ who did the party and told him I would love to play the opening at one of the next events. One or two months later I had my first gig ever there. I didn’t have that much skills back than to be honest but people liked my selection of tracks and from there on I got booked often and developed my skills and became a resident to this party.
Pro Media Mag :Your mixtape “The Late night special vol. 2” hit the top 10 of the Mixcloud-charts. You must be very happy with the response?
Caramel Mafia :Absolutely. I was not expecting it at all. Just to see that high amount of plays and the fact that people from all around the world would listen and share my tape was just crazy. It also gave me the chance to play also outside of Germany.
Pro Media Mag : Tell us about your recent release?
Caramel Mafia : My recent mixtape is a set I recorded exclusively for the fashion and music magazine Kaltblut. It has a focus on female artists. So I would say up to 70% of the artists in it are female or non-binary. It also has some electronic influence and got perceived pretty well.
Pro Media Mag : How was the experience in dutch TV show “College 010“?
Caramel Mafia : It was really fun because I just moved back to Rotterdam to do an exchange semester and in the first week there I got asked if I would like to be part of the show. So the followed me one week around and shadowed my first gig in Holland.
Pro Media Mag : Are you working on any new project?
Caramel Mafia : Yeah, right now I’m working on two new mixtapes that I want to release this year. I want one to be the follow up of my mixtape from last year “The Summer is mine vol.2” and the other one will be very different and comes with a lot of surprises.
Pro Media Mag : What’s the best part of being a DJ?
Caramel Mafia : Well, being a DJ has a lot of good parts. Being surrounded by music is favorite part. Its great to party with the crowd and you also get to travel sometimes. Find a job where you can bring your friends, be loud, have fun, meet new people and listen to dope music all the time.
Pro Media Mag : What attracts you more, performing on stage or working in studios?
Caramel Mafia : I would say I’m more into being on stage.
Pro Media Mag : What’s your favorite music genre?
Caramel Mafia : Hard to say: I love music in general and not necessarily by genre. But if I had to pick I would say HipHop and R&B.
