Pro Media Mag : First of all tell us about the start of your professional career?
Daryl-Jarod : Well I’ve always known I wanted to sing and act. As a kid, I would just sit and daydream about being able to do it as an adult. I guess you could say I started preparing myself at a young age. I acted onstage for the first time at age 11 and I’ve been singing since I was 3.
Pro Media Mag : Writing, singing, acting how do you manage all?
Daryl-Jarod : I will say it isn’t the easiest. It can be difficult trying to juggle everything all at once, so I try to focus on one thing at a time. Now that Silk is out, all of my energy is going toward recording new music. When I finish the new project, I’ll probably devote a month or two back to writing.
Pro Media Mag : Tell us about your recently released erotic book, Silk: The Complete Trilogy ?
Daryl-Jarod : The new book is the complete collection of all three volumes in my Silk eBook series. Over the years, I’ve had many people inform me they’d prefer to actually read the stories in paperback instead of digitally, so releasing this was always in the back of my mind. I also included a brand-new story with the collection, entitled “Pink Fortress”.
Pro Media Mag : What was the inspiration behind writing this book ?
Daryl-Jarod : I started writing the book in high school. But back then they were just a few stories I’d been writing for pure fun. When I found out I could self-publish my own stories without the need of a major publishing house, I immediately became inspired to finish the first volume and release it.
Pro Media Mag : What proved to be the main factor behind development of your writing skills? Education or its all your skills and natural abilities?
Daryl-Jarod : I’ve been writing since grade school. Whether it was a song, a story or poems, writing has always been a part of me. I think that’s what really helped develop my craft. Practice is key.
Pro Media Mag : Tell us about your recently released mixtape , “The Liberation of Daryl-Jarod”
Daryl-Jarod : I released Liberation when I was in college, so it dealt with a lot of things I was going through at the time. Heartbreak and self-discovery were a lot of its themes.
Pro Media Mag : What kind of response has the mixtape received?
Daryl-Jarod : I was really pleased with all the love the project received. Most people told me they could relate to “Lesson Learned”, a song about my strained relationship with my father and “Don’t Let Me Go”, a song all about faith and how I need it to survive.
Pro Media Mag : Our readers would like to know about the main acting projects you have done so far?
Daryl-Jarod : I’ve kind of briefly put acting to the side to focus on releasing more books and music. But most recently I’ve worked on a feature film entitled, “Proverbs” that should be released soon. It’s based on a true story about a 12-year-old who murdered his grandparents.
Pro Media Mag : What do you enjoy more writing, singing or acting?
Daryl-Jarod : That’s a hard Pro Media Mag, especially since I find so much joy in all of them. I love being able to be on stage and channel a character completely different from myself. I also have such a deep love for music. It’s therapeutic to be able to express myself through song. And writing is just as enjoyable, since I’m able to dig really deep into my characters and their everyday lives. But if I had to pick only one, I’d probably go with acting.
Pro Media Mag: Tell us about your upcoming projects?
Daryl-Jarod: I have quite a few things in the works. My next book, Sweat, will be released this summer, along with a Christmas-themed eShort for the holidays. My first EP drops later this year as well.
Pro Media Mag : Have you set some future goals to achieve?
Daryl-Jarod : I always have goals set for everything but one I’m excited about the most is focusing more on music. It’s been awhile since my last release, so I can’t wait for people to hear my growth as both an artist and a song-writer.
Pro Media Mag : Are you active on social media? what’s the best way to follow you online?
Daryl-Jarod: Yes! I’m on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter @daryljarod. You can also visit me online at daryljarod.com!
