The critically acclaimed New York artist Marko Stout is considered by many to be the coolest and most relevant multimedia artists working today! We recently interviewed him about his life and art. We are sharing it here with our readers.
Pro Media Mag: Please introduce yourself to the readers and how and when did you first get into Multimedia Art?
Marko Stout: My first few gallery shows where mostly prints. Then as I was getting more into art films, especially those of Warhol we start to experiment adding video and film elements to the exhibitions. We recently added sculpture and experimenting with music and sound for the upcoming exhibition. It make things more exciting.
Pro Media Mag: What is your favorite part about being a Multimedia Artist?
Marko Stout: Sleeping late.
Pro Media Mag: How much ups and downs in your life had helped you become an accomplished artist?
Marko Stout: You need to have some struggles to have something interesting to say. It’s like the Ringo Starr said, “you gotta pay your dues if you want to sing the blues”.
Pro Media Mag: Tell us about your solo gallery exhibition coming up this fall in Times Square?
Marko Stout: The title of the show is “Erotic Dreams” which is a bit of a metaphor for life in New York in general. We’re showing works from my latest series, but also pieces for some of my previous exhibitions, making it a bit of a retrospective.
Pro Media Mag: How much time did it take to create prints for this exhibition?
Marko Stout: The prints have been developed over the last few years. The sculptures are what took really long… we had some problems with the elongated supporting the body and the metallic finish took a lot of effort to great right. But, in the end they turned out great.
Pro Media Mag: Is there any particular reason behind choosing Time Square?
Marko Stout: It’s where the gallery sponsoring the exhibition is. Also I love around the corner and can walk to the show.
Pro Media Mag: What kind of difference we will see in this exhibition, compare to your previous ones?
Marko Stout: It’s certainly a larger and should be really cool. Lots more films and LEDs in this show. Also, we’re adding an electronic sound and music elements. The exhibit will be more interactive and less of a boring museum gallery feel.
Pro Media Mag: What is your favorite medium to express yourself as a Multimedia Artist?
Marko Stout: I really like experimenting with film lately.
Pro Media Mag: You have spent good years in this industry now. What’s your best work so far?
Marko Stout: I always like my latest. So, the current “Erotic Dreams” series is now my favorite.
Pro Media Mag: Big sites like Huffington Post and Examiner.com also appreciated your work. How do you feel about such appreciations?
Marko Stout: Great! We can charge more for my work. It’s expensive to live in New York!
Pro Media Mag: What has been one of the biggest achievements in your career so far?
Marko Stout: We recently sold a couple of my large sculptures and prints to a really cool Berlin nightclub and the upcoming solo show in Times Square is a really big deal.
Pro Media Mag: Do you follow the trends or try to create one of your own?
Marko Stout: I live in Manhattan so you can help but be influenced by current trends, but overall I really go my own way. My style is uniquely Marko Stout.
Pro Media Mag: What would be your best piece of advice to upcoming Multimedia Artists?
Marko Stout: Don’t be too influenced by current trends. Find your own style and stick with it. Let the market catch up with you.
Pro Media Mag: Are you active on social media? How to follow you online?
Marko Stout: Of course. We’re on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and all the big ones. You can also check us out online at MarkoStout.com.
